Farmington’s Civic Center Plaza serves as the front door to their main government building and as an outdoor venue for a variety of events and activities sponsored by the City throughout the year. Pland worked with Greer Stafford Architecture on a major renovation of the plaza in 2017 in conjunction with an addition and façade upgrades to the Civic Center building. The renovation included completely reshaping the site to provide large, flat open areas for events such as markets, concerts, weddings, and festivals. The plaza also includes smaller gathering areas including intimate courtyards and patios as well as a sheltered arbor for weddings and small events. The main flexible-use plaza includes a dry-deck pop-jet fountain designed to reference the long-lot agricultural nature of Farmington and its three rivers, the San Juan, La Plata, and Animas. Lighting and electrical receptacles were included to accommodate nighttime events, seasonal lighting, vendor booths, and musical performances.
